Looking for a way to connect with your family and explore the outdoors? Our family hikes offer the perfect opportunity to discover our county parks and introduce children to hiking. We invite you to join us for our next family hike on Saturday, July 19th, at Fowler Park. Meet us at the Brentlinger Shelter at 10 AM. Following the hike, you can join us for Summer in the Village until 1 PM and explore the historic pioneer cabins!

Join the VCPRD for a day of family fun! On June 16 from 10 to 2 PM, bring your family out to Fowler Park’s Shelter A field to participate in your own mini family games against each other or friends. There will be kayaking, yard games, soccer, cornhole, popsicles,  and more! There will also be activities brought to you by local organizations like the Terre Haute Children’s Museum, Swope Art Museum, and the Vigo County Public Library! All activities are free for you and your family to enjoy 🙂

After a long planning period, we are pleased to announce that we have received approval from the IDNR on our 2025-2029 Master Plan. The plan can be viewed below and on our website, along with physical copies located in our office and at the Vigo County Public Library. The plan will be available for public comment for 2 weeks and will be adopted at our next Board Meeting on April 28, 2025. Any public comment can be sent to info@vigoparks.org.

VCPRD 2025-2029 Master Plan

We are pleased to announce that the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a $50,000 matching grant from the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC). These grants are designed to fund public high-impact projects that enhance existing tourism and will drive tourism and economic growth. This grant will aid the VCPRD in building the first championship, gold-level disc golf course in Indiana. The grant will be used to build and install 27 disc golf baskets and 54 concrete tees for each disc golf hole. This course will be located in Fowler Park, to the west of Ruble Lake, and is being designed to rival top disc golf courses around the United States. With this course we aim to be a destination course for amateur and professional players.

Registration is now available! Check out the blacksmithing classes at Fowler Park! Participants will learn how to operate a blacksmith forge, understand the parts of an anvil, and the uses of various hand tools in the blacksmith shop. They’ll also get to shape metal using learned techniques including forging a curve, a twist, a square, and more! It’s that time of year again! We once again are planning our annual Christmas Walk at Fowler Park on December 6th and 7th. We will be doing our Christmas Trees in the barn again and are in need of local businesses and organizations to decorate trees!
