Yesterday was the day! We tapped our Maple trees at Prairie Creek Park to start collecting sap. Keep an eye on our social media and website for us to share when we will be boiling sap to make our maple syrup!

– Establishing legal residence in Caretaker home
– Being present 24 hours/day in absence of full-time staff
– Maintaining park in absence of full-time staff
– Other duties as required

Maple Syrup Guessing Contest
The start of 2024 means our maple syrup season is quickly approaching! We will be doing a maple syrup guessing competition again this year and the winner will receive a free quart sized bottle of fresh Indiana maple syrup right from our own Prairie Creek park! All guesses need to be submitted to [email protected] and guesses should be in gallons. The last day for submissions is January 31st! Good luck!
2024 Christmas Tree Drop off
We will be doing live Christmas Tree Recycling once again this year! After the holidays, bring your tree to Fowler Park or Hawthorn Park to the designated drop off location. Fowler Park’s drop off will be in the Beach Parking Lot and Hawthorn Park’s drop off will be in the first parking lot when you come in to the left. Please be sure to remove all of your lights and decorations.
Additionally- if you are in need of some trees for animal food, habitat or fish habitat please contact our office at 812-462-3392 to get some trees!
Firewood
We have had many inquiries about cutting firewood to use this winter now that it is getting cold. We have trees that have been logged and drug up near the road at Mill Dam that are available. For those who are interested in coming to cut firewood from these trees MUST contact our office about obtaining a waiver to do so. Cutting firewood is ONLY allowed at Mill Dam and not at any of our other parks.

Christmas Tree Trail
This year, during our annual Christmas Walk on December 1st and 2nd we will be having our first Christmas Tree trail in the Fowler Park Pioneer Village log barn. We are looking for organizations to adopt a Christmas tree to decorate. Your tree will be displayed at the Christmas Walk with a sign dedicated to your organization.
